Had to go to Boston, MA area for 2 different family things. My husband and I also went to do some research and hear a genealogy lecture at the Massachusetts State Archives.I have more information for you. I saw that you put what I gave on your web site which is fine. Did you realize we have a very big problem in this country with identity theft? We are asked to use our Mother's maiden names when applying for credit cards, so I wonder if in the future if you would not put my whole letters to you on the website. Thank you very much.I send to England quite often of certificiates so I have a credit card with a low ceiling on it that I use just for genealogy.I believe my Grandfather Henry's father was Charles Brough born in Buglawton, Cheshire, about 1824. He married Hannah Cheer in 1844 in parish church of Astbury (have certificate). Hannah Cheer Brough died 21 June 1868 in Harriseahead, Staffordshire. I have a copy of parish records of St. Thomas, Mow Cop, Staffordshire. I didn't know if or when Charles died when I saw an entry in 1881 census for a Charles Brough born in Buglawton, 1824, a coal miner, his age was stated as 57 yrs. wife Emma, age 39, born in Odd Rode. The diference in age could mean a 2nd marriage. They had children Charles born in 1871 Stafford (all it said). Frederick born in 1871 in Spennymore,Durham, and Louisa born in 1874 Leeds, Yorkshire. I just wanted to be sure this Charles Brough was Henry's Father. When I found Henry in the 1871 census living with Willam and Jane (Brough) Brown in Biddulph, living with them was a brother James Brough age 19 yrs a coal miner, a sister Selina age 16 yrs, a silk weaver, and of course Henry age 13 yrs, a coal miner. I at first thought their father Charles was dead and that is why they were living with their sister, but I couldn'g find a death for Charles. When Charles Brough was married to Hannah Cheer, they had a son Frederick in 1856 who lived only a few months, but now there is another Frederick with the 2nd wife(?) I couldn't find the son Charles born in 1870 on any of the BMD indexs. I did find a Fredrick Brough in Durham in 1871 but that county does not take a credit card, so I did find Louisa Brough in the Yorkshire BMD and sent for the birth certificate and the mother's name was Emma Turner. I think I am on the proper track and want to find the marriage certificate for Charles Brough and Emma Turner to see if it states Charles was a widower when he was married in about 1869. David on on the Odd Rode list found me an Emma Turner 10 yrs old in 1851 census for Odd Rode. In 1841 census I looked at yesterday at the LDS Family History Center, I found a Turner family same parents as 1851 but Emma had not yet been born. Also in that same 1841 census in the District of Congleton, Parish of Astbury, in Daneinshaw, I found a Charles Brough age 15 yrs,(1841 census rounded ages to nearest 5, he should have been 17 yrs) living with his family, Father Ralph Brough age 55 (name of father on Charles'marriage certifciate to Hannah Cheer) Mother Ann Brough age 50 Mary age 20, Charles age15, Martha age 12,Joseph age 9, Ralph age 6, William age 4.Also Daneinshaw was the place of residence of both Charles Brough and Hannah Cheer at the time of their marriage in 1844. If I can verify all of this then I will have to find Ralph Brough (quite a few were born in the Biddulph area, starting in 1701) If Ralph was 55 yrs in 1841 making him born abt 1785. I do find a Ralph Brough born in 1785 in Horton, Staffordshire, marrying an Ann Boon in Biddulp, 1810. This is just my first try at a search. I do have a film at the history center with the births, marriages and burials for Biddulph, Staffordshire for that time period. That is another new search. I am sorry again to have gone on so long. Do you have any conments on my theory above? I would appreciatedit if you have any advice. Do any of the Charles Broughs' you have marriages for fit the picture any better? I am sorry if I have repeat some of the same things I told you last time.I will try during the next week to scan some of these certificates to you. I am not the greatest on that part of the computer but my husband will help me. Hope to hear from you soon. Connie.
