| Biography | | Dutton Hall was a grand home to raise a family and they had many parties in the Great Hall with music and dancing it was a time when you had to make your own entertainment and they were looking for future partners for their three sons and two daughters. They loved living at the Hall and took a great interest in history. The book ( Duttons of Dutton) confirms this by the following entry. The carved work upon these two beams has of late years been renewed. It had become so decayed, that sooner than it should entirely disappear, Mr and Mrs Baxter, the tenants, had it replaced in exact imitation of the original at their own expense. The farm was 400 acres , they milked 60 cows which would be a big herd in those days all milked by hand and a big amount of Cheshire cheese was made which required a lot of family help which was done by mother and daughters.19 |
| Occupation | 2 April 1911 | On 2 April 1911 Thomas Baxter was a retired farmer.15 |
| Biography | | After the WW1 the local County Council purchased Dutton to be divided into smallholdings I believe this was the time time Thomas Baxter retired having lost his wife in 1914. He purchased a house called ( The Rock London Road Appleton).I believe all the family moved there although Joseph continued farming at Dutton in some form.19 The Rock at Stockton Heath |

| Occupation | 5 April 1891 | On 5 April 1891 Sir Thomas Baxter was a scholar at Turton Hall School in Gildersome, Yorkshire, EnglandG.10 |
| Biography | | While he was a young man at Dutton were he worked on the family farm milking cows and working all hours in the fields growing all sorts of crops as they did in those days in rotation. One of the main crops was early potatoes as it is today in that part of Cheshire. I know of many stories of the Irishmen who came every year to work in the fields and the things they got up to after they came back from the local pubs. One was called Sorry because that is what he kept saying.7 |
| Biography | | As a young man Thomas rode his pony to the local town where they were recruiting for men to go to South Africa to fight the Boers. On returning he told his parents who were less than pleased. He explained that some one from the family should go and he was the only one of the right age. He was therefore away from the farm for some while but his father put him back to work the day he returned. It was while in his Army uniform that he was spotted by a young lady by the name of Mabel Clare (returning soldiers looked so handsome in their uniforms). His future wife was not a farmer's daughter. She will not make a farmer's wifet, this is what he was told by his parents but to deaf ears. Mabel Clare's lived in house over looking the river Dee and the racecourse at Chester so were quite wealthy so you could say Thomas married well. |
| Occupation | 2 April 1911 | On 2 April 1911 Sir Thomas Baxter was a farmer at Freeford Farm in Lichfield, Staffordshire, EnglandG.9 |
| Biography | 1925 | Thomas retired from active farming in 1925. He had farmed at Freeford Farm, Lichfield where he had 600 acres on which he milked Shorthorn cows, ran a flock of Shropshire sheep and grew early potatoes (as his father had done at Dutton).7 |
| Residence | 1925 | He lived in Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire, EnglandG, in 1925 and resided at Somerville Road.7 |
| Occupation | 1927 | In 1927 Sir Thomas Baxter was the President of the National Farmers Union (NFU.)7 |
| Occupation | Between 1933 and 1949 | Between 1933 and 1949 Sir Thomas Baxter was the Chairman of the Milk Marketing Board.7,4 |
| Biography | 24 May 1935 | A drawing by Frank Slater appeared in the Farmers Weekly. |
| Retirement | 1948 | He retired in 1948.7 |
