To permit her to carry on the farming business which was his wish she should do so. Olive paying the rent and outgoings of the said farm by keeping the same number of cattle. An inventory was to be made after his decease to show what remained at the time of his decease. He required his trustees to place out at interest all such sums of money which he be posessed at the time of his decease and to pay and apply the dividend, interest and proceeds thereof to his wife for the term of her natural life. Upon the decease of his wife the trustees were required to make a true and just valuation of all farming stock and effects and other estate by some competent person. His son Josiah was to have the option of purchasing at the sum valued and paying within twelve months of his wifes death. Josiah was bequeathed the sum of £100 out of his personal estate and the sum of £50 to his daughter Rhoda rawlinson, the wife of William Rawlinson of Gawsworth; to his daughter Edna Thompstone the sum of £50 and to his sonFrancis Thompstone the sum of £50. Any residue of his personal estate shall be divided into five parts or shares and he bequeathed the same to his said son Josiah Thompstone, his said daughter Rhoda Rawlinson, his said daughter Edna Thompstone, his said son Francis Thompstone and his daughter Elen Booth the wife of Hugh Booth of Macclesfield, buthcher equaly to be divided between them. If Josiah did not take up the option then the farm was to be sold by auction or private contract or by both. The monies raised by such auction after payments of debts to be divided equally amongst the said five children already mentioned. "The following memorandum is taken from an old Society Steward's Book, and is worth preserving, becanse of the importance of the object contemplated in it. It bears date, Leek, January 31st, 1831, and is as follows : "Believing that a more regular attendance at the Leaders meeting will promote the temporal and spiritual prosperity of the Methodist Society in Leek ; we the undersigned, being Leaders, have agreed to attend at least once a mouth, unless when unavoidably prevented. Signed, Thomas Lea: Richard Cutting: James Wardle: Francis Swindalls : Robert Stirling: James Walmsley Joseph Pyatt : George Bull : Win. Hammersley James Heywood: William Kidd : Richard Bull Charles Walker : Etchells Rathbone : Thomas Henshaw."
